Journal

The Society produces an annual journal (Journal of the Anthropological Society of South Australia [ISSN 1034-4438]), which as of 2012, will be published in December of each year. The journal primarily publishes articles relating to Indigenous Australian anthropology, archaeology, history and linguistics although broader topics related to all of these disciplines may also be included. Editions are regularly structured around particular themes, however, non-themed editions may also be published. Additional special editions may also be produced at the discretion of the editor/s.

All papers in the journal are currently refereed by a ‘double-blind’ review process. Two reviews are now conducted in this manner. One review is undertaken by an external specialist in the field and another is undertaken by a member of the Editorial Advisory Board. Editors also review all contributions. Final acceptance of manuscripts for publication is at the discretion of the editors.

Contributions accepted include: articles (5000-8000 words), short reports (1000-3000 words), obituaries (500-2000 words), thesis abstracts (200-500 words) and book reviews (500-2000 words). Instructions for authors can be found here.

All authors are required to sign an author agreement before papers are published. A copy of the author agreement can be found here.

Should you wish to submit a paper to the journal please direct your enquiries to the Secretary of the Anthropological Society of South Australia (details are listed on the ‘contact details’ section of this website).

Some papers from the journal are now available free of charge (open access). Where this is the case simply click on the underlined paper title to obtain a pdf version.
